Day 3: Pastor Laurie

Malachi 3:10 “…Test me in this…and see if I will not throw open the flood gates of heaven…”

As a kid, do you remember being dared to do something and then chickening out at the last minute? If this still haunts you to this day, keep reading for a chance to redeem your courage in a bigger arena! There’s something unique about today’s passage.

It’s the only time in His Word that God dares us to test Him! That should make us all pause to consider the magnitude of that! However, as profound as it is, we can’t get so hyper-focused on that fact alone that we miss the promise that follows!

The Contemporary English Version says, “I will open the windows of heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing.”

I call this “THE BLESSING FLOOD.”

The word windows is from a Hebrew word that means “floodgates.” It is the same word used in Genesis 7:11: “The windows [floodgates] of heaven were opened.” It rained 40 days on the earth—so much that the waters finally topped out at more than 22 feet above the highest mountain. Now that’s a major flood!

That’s a picture of THE BLESSING FLOOD that God is pouring out over us.

What is a floodgate? A floodgate is a gate for controlling the flow of water from a lake, river, reservoir, etc. It can be opened or closed to admit or exclude water. When closed, it prevents water from going downstream to serve the purpose for which the dam is required. But once opened, water gushes out downstream with so much force, irrigating fields quite a distance away. This water covers large areas of land. God has a floodgate, too; not one to store water, but floodgates of blessings.

See yourself being covered with provision. See so much coming into your life that it is beyond measure. You won’t be able to keep up with the flood of blessings pouring over you.

Ezekiel 34:26 is another example of THE BLESSING FLOOD: “And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.” This is not a light rain. The word shower is from a Hebrew word that means “to pour down violently.” It is also defined as “a falling of things from the air in large quantities and in thick succession.”

Expect THE BLESSING FLOOD to cover you completely.

I once heard Oral Roberts say, “Not a trickle, not a stream, not a river but a flood! It’s flood stage!”

Prayer

Father, I pray that you will open the floodgates of heaven to me. I pray that you will fill the earth with the knowledge of your glory as the waters cover the sea. I pray that just like there was a heavy downpour of rain during the flood, you will pour out your Spirit on all people. I pray that the floodgates of heaven will continually pour down your blessings. In Jesus name, amen.
